Skysight Terms of Use

Effective date: October 18, 2026

These terms apply when you download or use Skysight on iPhone. By using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Skysight.

1. What Skysight is

Skysight is a free tool for casual stargazing. It uses a catalog bundled inside the app to show which stars, planets and constellations are likely to be above you, offers stories read aloud by the system voice, can schedule local reminders, and keeps a private sky log on your device.

What it is not

  • It is not a navigation, timing or safety instrument.
  • It is not a live identification service. A point that falls outside the catalog or its valid period is not identified.
  • It is not a scientific measurement tool. Positions are approximate and depend on the date, a rounded region and the sensors available on your device.
  • It does not offer accounts, cloud sync, social features, subscriptions or paid content.

2. Using the app responsibly

You may use Skysight for personal, non-commercial purposes in line with these terms and the Apple Media Services Terms. Stargazing often happens outdoors and in the dark: watch your footing, respect private property and local rules, and never look at the Sun through any device. Do not use Skysight while driving. Do not attempt to reverse engineer, overload or misuse the app or the AI service it connects to.

3. Your log and your content

Your observations, notes and attached photos belong to you and stay on your iPhone. A personal note never changes the catalog facts and is never sent to the AI service. You decide when to save, edit, share or delete an entry. Because Skysight keeps no copy elsewhere, you are responsible for any backup you want; deleting the app removes its local data.

4. The optional AI question mode

Asking a question through AI requires service access and your prior consent on the consent screen. When used, the question and related catalog facts are sent to DeepSeek as described in the Skysight Privacy Policy, and DeepSeek's own terms and policy also apply to that processing. The AI only picks facts that already exist in the catalog; if no fact fits, Skysight gives a short catalog-based introduction instead of an invented answer. Requests can fail because of connectivity, timeouts or service limits, and the service may change or become unavailable. Catalog basics, stories and the log keep working without it. You can turn Use AI off at any time in Settings.

5. Purchases

Skysight contains no in-app purchases or subscriptions, and nothing in the app asks you to pay.

6. Apple

These terms are between you and the provider of Skysight, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of any purchase price paid, which for this free app is none. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

7. Availability and changes

We may update, change or stop offering Skysight or any feature, including the bundled catalog and the AI question mode. Updates may change how the app works. We do not guarantee that the app will always be available, error-free or compatible with every device.

8. Catalog sources and intellectual property

The catalog draws on the Bright Star Catalogue (fifth revised edition) and constellation name lists published through CDS, and planetary positions come from the open-source Astronomy Engine, used under its MIT license. Skysight's design, text and code are protected by intellectual-property laws. These terms give you a personal, revocable licence to use the app; they do not transfer ownership.

9. Disclaimers and limits

Skysight is provided "as is". Catalog coverage is limited, unknown values are shown as unknown, and calculated positions are estimates. Reminders are scheduled from approximate viewing windows and depend on your notification settings; clouds, light pollution, horizon obstructions and weather are not taken into account. To the extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the app, including missed observations or decisions made from approximate positions. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.

10. Ending use

You can stop using Skysight at any time by deleting it. We may end access if these terms are seriously breached. Sections 3, 8 and 9 continue after use ends.

11. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms when the app changes. The effective date above shows the latest version; continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
